Behind the Glass– A Photographer’s Vision

Best + Worst

December 28th, 2006 by Rachel

Best and worst equipment/gear purchases. I saw this posted on a forum and thought I’d make my own list. These aren’t necessarily from this year, but many are.
Best

Intuous 3– God, a tablet is sooooo much better than using a mouse.
Dynaphos soft box
Kelby books (any, especially Photoshop Book for Digital Photogs)

JTL D-series strobes

16-35mmL, 100-400mmL, 100mm macro, 50mm
Spyder Pro

My domain (although I’ve not yet finished my website)

Silverlake backdrops

NAPP membership (completely invaluable!)

Dynatran shoulderbag (finally, one that holds a good amount of stuff, but not everything and isn’t too big/heavy!)

Shooting Table

WhiBal Cards– only wish I’d remembered to use my NAPP discount!

Worst

Lowepro Stealth Reporter 650AW– great bag, but too big and heavy loaded down– good for storage though

JTL giant softbox– I’d heard bigger is better, and perhaps it is for many, but not for me, especially since I’m cramped for space.

Really expensive/popular PS action set– Nice set (won’t name by whom) but I don’t think it’s worth what I paid for it, especially since I don’t use it any.

Epson P2000– I bought this in lieu of a laptop. Really never used it any, and bought a laptop several months later.

Laptop– Jeff uses it more than I do.

JTL J-160– Purchased it for use as a backlight but don’t really ever use it.

Remote switch

Upcoming must-haves

Sekonic L358

Pocket Wizard tranceiver

Dynaphos soft box (at least one more, eventually more!)
70-200mmL

10-22mm

24-105mmL

That’s all for now I guess; may add to this later…

Adobe PSCS3 beta release.

December 15th, 2006 by Rachel

It’s an exciting time for Photoshop junkies.  Adobe’s just released its beta version of CS3 and it may be downloaded here. In order to download it users must have registered with the site and log in.

Here are some links to write ups on the release.

Apple Insider

Think Secret

DPReview

I’m still downloading it.  And have been for some time.  I’ll write a report on it later.  It is, despite the bulky, slow download, suppose to run faster than previous versions.  We’ll see!

I believe the download is only available for a limited time.

Pet portrait and a link

Mood : contemplative

Meet Gummy.

He’s one fat kitty and so pretty. A eunuch with a lovely soprano kitty voice. hehe

Gummy

I found a photo blog a few weeks ago that I’d really not paid much attention to. Today I gave it a look. It’s probably more geared towards newbies, but there’s a lot of good information and indeed has some articles of use for any level of user. Will also add this to the links page.

Digital Photography School

I need to upload some photographs tonight to the lab. Not looking forward to that. But I think I’ve pretty much everything ready to go. So hooray.

Cheers,

R
