Behind the Glass– A Photographer’s Vision

About the Blog

Just my little photo blog. I’ll probably add non photo content on occasion, but mostly I’ll post photographs (and photography related content). I’ve been a blogger for many years– well before the term “blogging” was coined; but, this is my first blog dedicated entirely to my photography and I’m quite excited about it.

Oddly enough, I love to write, even about myself, but writing biographical information I find horribly challenging. So excuse the lack of interestingness here. ;)

Why Behind the Glass?

If you know a little about photography, you’ll know that lenses are commonly referred to simply as “glass”. The camera is not nearly as important as the lens and we silly photogs covet our prized lenses and refer to them with the simple term of endearment. The lens, or glass, is the eye of the camera. Both in life as well as in photography, eyes hold great importance. The window(s) to the soul. My glass is the window to my photographic soul, and as such, allows a glimpse into my soul.

Initially, I had kicked around the idea of using that as the name for my studio. After finding that I couldn’t secure Behind the Glass as a domain name, I decided to look for something else. Obviously, I couldn’t find anything quite as catchy that also had great appeal to me. Fortunately, my blog is integrated into my site and I can name it whatever I like.

A little about my life

I live in beautiful northwestern Tennessee with my husband, Illustrator Jeff Ward, and our four legged daughter, Athena, as well as her cousin, Gumdrop. I also have a canine daughter, Hollie, but she lives with my parents.

Currently, I am a part time photog and a full time student. I’m pursuing my degrees in business and hopefully I’ll be done… one day. ;) I read as often as time permits; love aircraft piloting, am a globe trekker; a certifiable internet junkie; a shoe fiend; I collect books and shot glasses; enjoy writing– probably too much, I tend to err on the verbose side of things. I don’t know if I’ll ever make my photography career full time, or if I’ll ever entirely want to do so. I do, however, appreciate the ability to justify the end by the means of pro work.

My Photography

Photography is not only a part of my life, it’s a part of me… my passion. I see the world differently when I am behind a piece of glass than I do when I am not. It’s better– for a mere moment the craziness and hustle of life stops for me to capture and admire the beauty of life. I compose everything I see as a photograph in my mind, regardless of whether or not I expose the scene. I capture what I see, as well as what I want to see and how I want to see it– how I want you to see it. Photography is very much an expression of my inner most thoughts and my inner self. That said, I am a photog for the love and and enjoyment I get from it. The moment it stops being those things for me is the moment I stop being a photographer.

Updates, subscribing, contacting me and whatnot

Not yet sure how often I’ll update; I’m trying to finish the new site design, book editing, and lots of course work, as well as a million other things; but, I thoroughly enjoy blogging (and obviously photography) and will probably update fairly regularly nonetheless.

I’ve made available a zillion and one ways for readers to subscribe to my blog, as well, you can contact me via a link on the main page and at some point I will probably install a form for contacting via that method. I encourage and would appreciate you utilizing these methods.

Hope you enjoy my little blog and visit often. :D
